Natural rebalancing?

Mother Nature copes with situations in her own special way.

Apparently the flooding in Pakistan last year has had some interesting effects on the local flora and fauna. The photos of trees wrapped in spiderwebs are fascinating, and, well, slightly disturbing to me. You see, spiders don't like water, so they crawled up into the trees to wait out the floods. Reports are that the webs are reducing the mosquito population, and thus probably reducing the number of new patients with malaria. (There are no close-up shots, and no spiders shown.)

It just seems so very off-balance to me. I guess it's the thought about just what all else is out of balance in the environment, and what the ramifications might be in the near and distant future.
