We went to see Ben Folds at the Ryman last night and it was great. He definitely puts on an awesome live show and even the opening acts were fun to watch. The first was a junior version of Ben Folds and the second was a college accapella group (spelling?) who did covers of some popular songs. Overall very enjoyable.
But midway through during a slow song when the entire audience realized that this was the moment to sit down and relax, these 3 kids about five rows in front of us kept standing. We were far enough behind them that we could still see but if you've been to the Ryman, its not exactly stadium seating so the people in front of us were completely obstructed. In fact the guys behind them asked them to politely sit down and that's when the shit hit the fan. The kids (2 guys and a girl) got mad and pissy. Someone had to grab a security guard to request for them to sit, eventually turning into an argument between lead kid and 4 security guards, til finally they were escorted out. Ben Folds noticed the commotion during his pre-song story telling and wise cracked about it as Ben Folds should...and the show went on.
But seriously, what is that dumbass music elitist crap? Why the hell do you have to stand when everyone is sitting so we can all see? What is wrong with being aware of the people around you and being freakin' polite? You can still hear the music. The man is not bringing you down, man. There's rebellion and then there's dont be a moron. These kids eventually got kicked out of the whole show altogether and the whole situation was just unnecessary.
Grow up! Geez.
