A. Action for 1247 Williams Road:
[ The first thing Magnus notices as he drifts out of his dream is that the sunlight is streaming through his window. That's funny. His drapes have always been able to keep the sun from coming through before. Then he realizes, without even opening his eyes, that he's not in his bed. The sheets against his skin are ( Read more... )

[The door to Crowe's bedroom opens enough for him to peer out, at the sound of someone walking around and snapping their finger. Usually Crowe is camped out at Lucas and Silence's place, but coincidentally this is the one night n three he has to stay home.

Oh. It's someone new. Well, here we go again. At least it's better than a drone... right?]

Ah... hello?

[ Magnus pauses halfway down the hallway and turns, looking just a little bit surprised. It hadn't occurred to him that there might be other people in the house for some reason. ]

Hello. [ A head tilt. ] Do you live here? [ What he really wants to ask is do I live here. ]

[Crowe opens the door a bit more now.]

Ah, yes, in a way. Did you, um... wake up here today?

[ He turns so he's facing Crowe completely and crosses his arms over his chest. ] I did, in fact. Is this a normal thing for you? People you don't know waking up in your house.

More often than you'd think in this town. Um... there's a lot to explain, as you can imagine. My name's Calleo Crowe, and, ah... Well, let's go sit in the kitchen and have some tea o-or something, anyway.

No worries! ^^ boots_and_boys December 12 2011, 22:28:17 UTC
Magnus Bane. [ Huffing a sigh, because really. ] Tea sounds like a good start. [ He snaps his fingers before remembering that his magic doesn't work. So he'll just be sighing again and stalking off to the kitchen. ]

[Crowe will lead him to the kitchen, ask him to have a seat, and busy himself with making tea. He's given this speech countless times, so it's practically reflex by now.]

Um, well, this is Mayfield. And everything I'm about to tell you is true, but you're free to believe it or not. The short version of it is that everyone here is a prisoner in this town, forced to live as families. Wife, husband, a few children, sometimes pets. Ah, people from all over the universe live here. And you... well, um. Did you wake up in a bedroom alone, or with a woman who, um, acted like you were her husband?

The latter. [ Running a tired hand through his hair. ] Talk about a terrible Vegas experience.

[ He didn't like the sound of this situation. Stripped of his powers and personal effects, trapped, without a clue as to what was going on. Certainly higher on the what-the-hell scale than most things he got himself into. ]

Ah. Well, she's brainwashed. "Droned", we call it. It just happens to people. The other kid in the house, Ash, he... He was droned not too long ago. [He looks pretty sad about that, but he tries to cover it up.]

They will also act like you've always been here. And that you're my father... though you don't look like you could be much older than I am.

[ A soft look of sympathy, but there's no need to touch down on obviously painful topics. Not now, anyway. ]

Ah. [ He smirks. ] I'm older than I look.

Mm. That's a pretty common thing in this town, no worries. Ah, not me. I'll be 18 next month, so if I suddenly disappear from the house overnight and show up as a dad somewhere else, well, Mayfield does that sometimes. Not always, though.

The least they could do is be consistent. So that's the gist of it, then? We're trapped in the fifties, stripped of everything we are and own, and have no way out?

Yes, mostly, and yes. Eventually you'll get things returned in the mail. Even intangible things. Usually it happens right after something big occurs... Ah, you can also go to the post office, but I wouldn't recommend it. He... The Postman, he will take organs or body parts in exchange. Or memories.

[ Stares. ] Great, I'm living in a town that likes to harvest organs again. Anything else I should know? Can the animals talk? Are there potions that make you shrink and cake that can make you grow?

A-Again?

Some animals can, actually. A-And no, not yet anyway. Mayfield seems to take it's cues from the Twilight Zone rather than Alice's Adventures.

[ A bored wave of his hand. ] London in 1878 was not pleasant.

Talking animals? [ And now he's smiling. ] That's a first.
