Fandom: The Mighty Boosh
Characters: Howard, Vince
Word Count: 200

Disclaimer: Not owned by me.
Warnings: This is like fluff Tuesday and a challenge fic all rolled into one.
Notes: For Challenge 17, Holidays. This is a sequel to my drouble Shouting Across the Milky Way, in which Howard and Vince are in Japan for unknown reasons, and celebrate the festival of Tanabata. Here they are in Japan again a month later, in time for Obon. There ... may be some more of these soon.

"This is so genius! It's great to be back, ain't it, Howard?"

"Hm."

"You're just annoyed because Naboo refused to take us to that jazz festival in Tohoku in July. Obon's way better, anyway."

"Vince, you've got powdered sugar on your face."

"Eh?" Vince poked his tongue and started licking around his mouth. Howard found this simultaneously disgusting and fascinating. "Did I get it? Must be from that mochi I ate."

Howard sighed and patted around his pockets till he found his handkerchief, then handed it to Vince. He was relieved he'd managed to avoid wearing a yukata this time; Vince's was even more outrageous than it had been at Tanabata. "Let's go light a lantern."

At the riverside there was a table with lantern-making supplies. Vince scribbled nonsense on the paper shade. "What are these for, anyway?"

"Er, well, they're meant to guide the spirits of your ancestors to the land of the dead."

Vince went still. "Oh. I don't really know my ancestors, though ... do you think that's a problem?"

Howard almost told him not to take it so seriously, but instead he said, "Of course it doesn't matter. My family's your family, Vince."

"Oh! Thanks, Howard."

---

Mochi is glutinous rice paste used to make sweets like daifuku.

Vince is referring to Nango Summer Jazz Festival. Poor Howard.
