Barring whatever finishing ends up happening to it, the first attempt ever at a gear is complete:
Left is the basswood model, right is the pewter sand casting, after some minor cleanup. There's plenty of material left to sand out the minor surface voids (it's 1/8" thick) from loose sand during casting, but I'm lazy and it's dinner time..
For the record, 64 teeth on a 2" diameter gear is a lot. I should probably have started with something more like 16 or 32, but the reference pic had 60+, so I went nuts. I should also lost-wax cast things like this, for accuracy, but not quite all set up for that yet...
