So, for those of you who didn't know, this weekend (starting on Thursday) was Greek Holiday. What that means is that I spent three days in an uncomfortable costume, doing way too much manual labor, and talking to hick. Oh, did I mention that i LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!!!!!!!

Greek Holiday is something my church puts on every year around this time. Our church being a Greek Orthodox Church, there are a lot of Greek People milling around and there is a strong tie to Greek culture. (Go figure!)

So every year, we hold the Greek festival. There's Greek Dancing, Greek Food, Greek Wares, and tours of the Church. Greek Holiday is one of my favorite three days in the entire year. As my sister puts it, "It's like a second Christmas," and not just because we end up getting lots of swag.

First of all, there’s the food.

On the Dinner Line, you have Greek salad, Greek green beans, Rice Pilaf, Pita bread, a tiropita (a cheese and filo dish) and your choice of chicken or Pork Souvlaki (shish kabob).

Then in the A la Carte booth, they had Lamb kabobs (So Good!), Gyros (Pronounced yee-ros, but still singular) Calamari, Patates (Greek Potatoes), a full-size Greek salad, or a combo plate (which included Dolmades (grape leaves wrapped around a rice-filling), Tiropita, Spanakopita (like Tiropita, but with spinach also), Kephtethes (Greek Meatballs), Kalamata olives and some Feta cheese.

Then we have the Bakery, which had Baklava, (if you don't know what that it, then you are the definition of the word "Xeno!"), Galaktobouriko (a custard-like dish), Kourabiedes (a cookie with powdered sugar on top), Finikia (a kind of honey soaked cookie with nuts on top), and koulourakia (The most basic of Greek cookies, usually served with coffee for dunking).

Finally, we have the Loukoumades Booth, which is where you get the delicious loukoumades, which are made by frying dough, then dropping the little balls of fried dough into honey, then you sprinkle cinnamon sugar on top.

Second, we have the STUFF!!!

There's all the cool stuff we get in the Marketa from food and cookbooks, to imported hand soaps, to t-shirts and stickers. Not to mention costume jewelry.

Then, up at the church is the Fine Jewelry where they sell fantastic crosses and ancient coins and all kinds of awesome stuff! Then there's the Church Bookstore, with every book or video you could ever want on the Orthodox Faith.

Lastly, but not Least, there's the DANCING!!!!!!! We Dance like crazy fro three days. It’s awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyone wanting Greek Dancing lessons should feel free to comment. Also, my friends and I have decided to start a Greek Dancing workout group. (It's a hell of a way to lose weight!!!)

All in all, I would have to say I LOVE GREEK HOLIDAY!!!!!!!!
