I don't know if everyone knows about this and I am way behind the times, but I read about this Earthviewer program in the paper. Apparently it has been getting a lot of "press" from the news channels using it to zoom in on targets etc. in Iraq. I don't know anything about that one. But MapQuest will do real-life images on places, though probably not as good. And the USGS has one, but that might be Earthviewer, I don't know.

We might have something here at work, too, because we need overhead shots of stuff. Did you know that we make topographical maps by having planes fly over a site? And somehow they figure out the topography? I mean not us personally, we hire people. And they're not a million percent accurate, but they're decent. I think that's amazing.

Also, sometimes I'll see in an old file 4"x4" aerial photos that we also have done. They are so. Cool. They are black and white, but so crisp, and just . . . awesome.

A lot of time we'll print out aerial shots real big on the plotter, to show where the development will be, for a presentation or something. People ALWAYS stop by, when one is sitting out on a table, and try to figure out where it is. I don't know why aerial photography is so fascinating, but it is. I guess because it's stuff that is familiar to us, from a completely unfamiliar angle.
