I saw this incredibly unusual review of Bryan Talbot's new Alice in Sunderland graphic novel today on
Gad, Sir! Comics! Steve Flanagan has reviewed the book using a comic panel style similar to the actual book, with a narrator standing in front of the artwork. I've seen (and written) plenty of graphic novel reviews but this was a wonderfully unusual way of reviewing a book, what a terrific idea!
Just started reading the book a few days ago after Cape sent me a copy (think it is Dark Horse in the US) and it is absolutely engrossing so far. Okay, I am biased since Lewis Carroll has been a favourite author of mine since I was a kid - that wonderful mixture of exuberant imagination and incredibly clever wordplay - but it is a pretty fascinating read. Anyway, I just thought I would pass on Steve's review because it was such a damned cool way to do one! I'd do a review myself in the style of a Caroll nonsense poem but I fear my poetic skills are more like EG Thribb from private Eye...
