Little Sister's Vs. Big Brother: Rocks Fall, Everybody Dies.

So, I don't know how many of you may be familiar with this story, but here goes.

I work at Little Sister's Book and Art Emporium, in Vancouver, BC.

Yes. THAT Little Sister's Book and Art Emporium.

As the Wikipedia article above says, we've been embroiled in a 24-year-long battle with Customs, due to their unfair policy that states that "obscene" material isn't allowed through the Canadian border - but leaves the definition of "obscene" open to interpretation by whatever customs officials happen to be reviewing the material, and protects th. (The Wikipedia article about the case is here, and the summary in full legalese - for those of you who speak it - is here. You can also get information about it on our website, including press releases and whatnot.)

Recently, we lost an appeal for advance costs to continue our lawsuit against Customs. Which means... the case is done.

We've got an obscene amount of legal fees to pay, and Customs isn't changing it's policies. And we can't afford to keep going.

Hopefully this isn't the end of the store itself, but it's definitely the end of our fight for freedom of expression. And we didn't win.

Oscar Wilde is spinning in his grave, I tell you. Spinning. (His books are among some of the literature that's been seized at some point during all this. No, really.)
