yet another expatriated starbuckian

i've grown sick of my current job (starbucks, where i am a shift supervisor) and i'm looking for a change. books, like coffee, are a passion of mine, so naturally now i'm thinking about working at a bookstore. the reason i'm considering chains like B&N and borders instead of independent bookstores is the benefits. i was wondering if you guys could answer a few questions of mine ...

substitute "B&N" w/ the bookstore of your choice :)

1) how do you like working at B&N? i know it depends largely on your coworkers and your managers .. is there a lot of corporate BS you have to deal with? is it a demanding job? do you feel really tired even on your days off? (because honestly, that's how i feel right now. but that's because our store is extremely busy and 8 hour shifts seem like 14 hour ones with the amount of work we do) if you work at B&N you don't have to answer this question, as i see it's already been answered below.

2) how are the benefits? is it easy to advance in the company?

3) related to #2, does B&N hire people to come in as managers? can i apply for a management position instead of wage slave position?
