Giles looked over at Fred when she asked if he was planning on going to work the next day. There had been a time when he didn’t have to answer to anyone else and he was still getting used to have Fred there. But Giles knew she was right and knew he needed to stay home and rest. “You’re right,” he said, kissing her cheek. “I’ll stay home tomorrow even though I’ll be terribly bored without you.”
He wrapped his good arm around her and pulled her closer so she was leaning against his chest. “I do suppose I’ll stay in bed all day and watch bad dramas on the telly,” Giles said before kissing the side of her neck. “You’ll call me every ten minutes, right?”
With a smile, Giles reached over and turned off the bedside lamp. He returned to kissing Fred’s neck, knowing they probably wouldn’t do anything but he still resist the lure of her soft skin. “You don’t mind meeting my parents this weekend, you do?” he murmured against her skin. “The estate is on the way to Bath and I thought we could perhaps have tea with them. I do suppose they’ll want to meet their soon-to-be daughter-in-law.”
Fred felt a bit relieved when he agreed to stay home the next day and not push himself. She wasn't completely sure how much blood he had lost between the village and the flat, so she didn't want him to go to work and end up having to be taken to the hospital because of it.
Resting her head on his chest when he pulled her against him and closing her eyes, she couldn't help but laugh softly at the image of him watching soap operas. It just seemed so un-Rupert-like. "I'm not sure if ten minutes is going to be possible. Will every fifteen minutes do?"
Once he turned the lights off, she stretched out a bit but remained leaning against him. She liked being able to cuddle up to someone like this, especially when he kissed her the way he was. Resting her hand on his stomach, she rubbed gently.
"I don't mind at all. You've already met my parents, so I should meet yours, and I really do want to meet them, so before the wedding is probably best. I just hope that they like me and don't think I'm too kooky or something."
“I believe both of them will adore you, Fred,” Giles said as he shifted under her. He wrapped his arms around her waist and used his good hand to rub circles on her stomach. “My mum is quite laid back and always sees the good in people. She’s a lot like you. And my father - well, it might take him a while to warm up to you but I’m sure he will.”
He went back to kissing her neck as his hand traveled up and over her breasts. “I love you,” he whispered in her ear. “And I’m quite glad you’re here and not back in Texas. We should really buy Willow a gift since she pestered me for days about calling you for your interview.” His hand moved up and he tickled his fingers over the pulse of her neck.
“You are the most beautiful woman I know, Fred,” he said as his fingers through her silky hair, loving the way it felt on his skin. “I almost feel as if I should build a shrine to you.”
Fred felt better when he assured her that his parents would like her. She always felt so self-conscious about how she came across to people, both with her Texan accent and her tendancy to babble.
"Hopefully, I won't ramble in front of your parents when I meet them," she said before sighing softly as his hands roamed over her body. "Ohhh...I like it when you do that."
She grinned at the idea of getting something for Willow for basically being the one who caused all this to happen. "We should. Although, you know...maybe instead of getting something for her, we could return the favor. It looks like she has a big time crush on Charlotte. I wonder if the feeling's mutual at all."
She then felt herself blushing at his compliment. "You build a shrine, and I doubt that I'll be able to walk, my ego'll get so big." She kissed the bit of his skin she could feel through the opening of his pajamas. "Just being with you like this is enough for me."
“Bloody hell,” Giles softly cursed when Fred said Charlotte’s name. “I forgot that I’m supposed to meet her in the morning. I do suppose I’ll have to ring her and ask her to bring the project over here while you’re at work tomorrow.” He then grinned and pulled her closer before adjusting himself so he was in more of a lying position.
“Funny story about Willow and Charlotte. When I first hired Charlotte, she hung about my office a lot and I was quite sure she had a crush on me. I actually mentioned it to Andrew one day and he laughed at me,” Giles started. “It seems Charlotte has had her eye on Willow since starting at the Council and was only coming by my office a lot in hopes of seeing her.”
Giles continued to softly rub Fred’s stomach as he continued his story. “Charlotte finally told me one day that she liked Willow. I was tempted to set them up then but Willow was still getting over Kennedy and I didn’t want to push anything on her. She was quite confused over Kennedy leaving her and I didn’t want to press the matter with her,” he said. “But I think I’ll speak to Charlotte tomorrow about maybe asking Willow out for coffee or tea.”
Fred couldn't help but smile in the dark at Rupert's story. "Well, I have to say that I'm very glad that you were wrong about who her crush was on, purely for selfish reasons, of course," she told him as she hugged him. "But you definitely should encourage Charlotte. I'm pretty certain Willow would like that, given how she was acting at the meeting today. And maybe if things go well with them, the four of us can have a double date sometime."
***** When the morning came, Fred didn't want to leave Rupert but knew that she had to go to work. After finally managing to extract herself from his arms - though very, very reluctantly - she called Willow and asked if one of them could come pick her up since the doctor wanted Giles to have a day to recover. Willow said that she and Buffy would be over within in forty-five minutes, and suddenly, Fred wondered if maybe she should just crawl back into bed and hide with Rupert.
After taking a shower, she went back into the bedroom to change, looking over at Rupert as she laid her clothes out on the bed. "I think I'm being set up again since things got cut short last night. Both Willow and Buffy are coming to pick me up."
While Fred was taking her shower, Giles spent his time sulking in bed. He didn’t like knowing he was going to miss a full day of work but that didn’t compare to the feelings he had about being away from Fred for a full eight hours. When she came back into the bedroom and made her announcement, Giles smiled a little.
“Buffy’s just being curious is all. She’ll end up loving you. The person she didn’t like was Olivia, and I could see her reasons. I ended up not like her much either,” he said as he watched her dress. He let out a sigh and slouched down in the bed. “You know, as your boss, I could close the lab for the day and you could stay here.”
Giles knew closing the lab wasn’t possible. He let out another sigh and rolled over onto his side. “I hope I’m able to take care of myself, with my bad hand and all. I would be terribly disappointed if you came home and I was dead because I couldn’t properly feed myself,” he said in an over dramatic fashion.
"I hope she does. I know how important to you she is, and I'd hate to come between the two of you in any way. The funny thing is that she doesn't look anything how I pictured her when I used to hear stories about her before for some reason, I expected this...superwoman, and she seems so...normal. I like her."
Pulling her top over her head, she then chuckled when Rupert threatened to close the lab so she wouldn't have to go in. "Or even better, I could mix Enverenti blood with mercury. That would force a lab shutdown in no time."
Once she was dressed, she climbed onto the bed and crawled over to him, resting on her side and facing him, her hand cupping his cheek. "I promise that if I come home and find you dead from malnutrition, that I'll properly grieve and curse the heavens for making food so hard to eat one-handed." She leaned forward and kissed him gently. "I was thinking, since we can't have the debriefing at the office today like you wanted, maybe I should ask everyone to come over here at the end of the day? That way you won't be totally out of the work loop for today."
“And if I die, you’ll never fall in love with another, yes?” Giles asked as he smirked. When Fred kissed him, he had to resist the urge to pin her down in the bed and make her stay. But he knew she had to go to work so he pulled back. “And that sounds like a brilliant plan, love. I’ll make sure to be out of bed and dressed by the time you lot get here.”
He was about to snuggle closer when he heard a car horn outside. Sighing, he moved back and looked at Fred. “I do suppose that’s Willow and Buffy. Good luck with the questioning,” he said with a smile. Giles then leaned forward and softly kissed her as they beeped the horn again. “You should go. I love you.”
When Fred left the room, Giles rolled over and picked up the cordless phone. He dialed Charlotte’s mobile and spoke to her for a few minutes before she agreed to bring the project over later in the morning. After ringing off, Giles sighed and stood from the bed, wondering if he was too early to call Fred.
