You thought Divergent was bad? Try the sequel.

I had a lot of issues with Divergent, but it was a fun book, and therefore not a complete fail. Insurgent, however? Reading this book was painful. Most of the secondary characters were cardboard cutouts, and the inter-character drama often felt more like a soap opera than anything else. The author attempted to clarify nonsensical aspects of the first book using neuroscience, but I'm fairly certain that all she did was look up "parts of the brain" on Wikipedia, because the idea of "Divergence" still didn't make any sense. Also, the supposedly intelligent villain was an idiot, as well as poorly developed.

(Note: This is a civilized and much-abridged version of the full rant. If you're curious to see it in its entirety, you can find it here.)

scifi that makes you sigh, rants, at least the pages were numbered, yes 10 million fans disappointed me day, author last names m-s, young adult fails
