It's Spain (the models count to 5 in Spanish at one point). But it took me a while to figure out the reasoning behind the name. Or at least my theory of the reasoning...
hmm possible, though i wonder where the play on words comes from if it's Austria/Switzerland. the closest cheese name off top of my head close to "Gowdee" is Gouda....which is made primarily, IIRC, in Holland. and "TooLip" already represents Holland, soooo that's out.
i had thought of Gowdee > Howdy but then there's not really a country known for cowboys. (is there?)
damnit, this is gonna bother me all day tomorrow til i figure it out, lmao.
It's actually fairly clever by Tyra's standards. I knew it was Spain as at one point the models count to 5 in what I recognised as Spanish & it was mentioned as being 'Gowdee'an' but it wasn't until I sat there sounding the word out that it reminded me of Gaudi. Quick search on Wikipedia & whaddya know? He's Spanish!
She mentions doing a lot of research for this book in libraries & namechecks some pretty prestigious ones, so I guess she picked the name up somewhere.
Of course that's just my theory & it could be entirely wrong, but it's the only thing I can come up with.
ignore my above comment i just made to hisietari. your theory does make sense!
still, all that energy "researching" and she couldn't come up with more creative names for countries than those? i could do it in ten minutes using a couple name generators, FFS.
and oy the dumbass country names. the only one i don't get is "Gowdee". all the others are pretty obvious.
