More authors behaving badly: Kiera Cass

A sequel to my post about Leigh Fallon's meltdown! Yet another YA author is losing her shit because someone wrote a negative review of her book, The Selection. But this one gets better: she and her agent, Elena Roth, talk on Twitter about getting all their friends/clients to go to Goodreads to "like" all the positive reviews. You'd think an agent would know better. A Google search reveals that the agent is a well-known online presence; there's lots of glowing praise for her "social media savvy."

I've been seeing this more and more recently and it just... I honestly can't believe that authors have become so entitled. Do they honestly think that we owe it to them to give them a good review ( ... )

Hi - first time actually interacting with this community, although I've followed it for a while. I'm not sure if it's okay just to dive into the comments section like this, but hey.

I feel a bit sorry for Cass after reading all that. It was her agent who was being particularly snappy and stupid in that twitter excerpt. Cass just struck me as someone trying to do some damage control to her authorial image and stupidly sharing her plan online for all to see.

Also, what counts more as a bookfail than one you couldn't bring yourself to finish? That shouldn't be dismissed as a "Oh well, you didn't try properly", it should be a reaction of "You obviously aren't my target demographic. Can't win them all" or "Oh god, what am I doing wrong?"

That's just my two cents anyway...
