What if we we were the NY Times? And we decided to negatively review their book in the paper? Would they write to us and complain about the fact that we gave it a bad review? No, they would take it in stride because we would be a reputable establishment.
I think that with the information age, people have come with dis-credibility. We're just the readers, so our reviews don't really count. They don't think about sites like goodreads and Amazon being legitimate, reputable sites because it's just their lowly ol' readers reviewing. But I wish they would take a different perspective on it. What if we write for a paper or a magazine? Would you ever consider insulting me like that then?
No, never, because you would want me to review your next book in the hopes that the outcome would be more favorable. Authors need to start realizing that their READERS are the new reviewers. It's not the Times you need to worry about, it's us. Because we're going to bring that book down in flames if you do something as stupid as this.
