All right, I'll be the first to admit I read this book when I was too young to know better. It seemed like a good idea at the time, because it was a unique way to write... or so I thought.
For those of you unfamiliar with the book, it's about three girls (I don't remember any of their names) who just started highschool. The whole book is written through instant messages. Neat idea, right? Seeing as, at that time, AIM and YM where just first making it huge. Wrong. The grammer in the book is enough to make an kindergartener's hair curl. I understand she's trying to 'text speak', but I didn't understand half the abbriviations she used! Not to mention, it's really forced at parts because she had to find a way to make their everyday tasks and event appear in the conversations. Those parts were certainly the hardest to read through because ,I don't care who you are, you're not going to be telling your friends on AIM: 'I got up at 745 + brushed my teeth b4 taking a shwr. Mom was late getting me to skool + 1st period sucked. but cute guy looked @ me!!!!' For me, this novel was nothing but a headache since I couldn't handle the constant grammer errors. I know they're supposed to be freshman, but I'm pretty sure I had better grammer when I was a freshman.
Another thing that really upset me about this 'novel', if you can call it that, is the main girl has an affair with her teacher. Or something like that. At least if she doesn't end up sleeping with him, she sure is dumb enough to go hang out at his house by herself! If that wasn't asking to get raped, I don't know what is? Where are her parents? I also felt like the author made a real copout with doing the book through IMs, since she didn't really have to go into too much detail. I guess she figured she could talk like an uneducated fourteen-year-old and it was okay to avoid details. One more thing, I very much doubt Lauren Myracle is her real name. I think she meant to go into the porn industry, not literature. This book has sequels, but I have avoided them like the plague.
Anywho, thoughts? Opinions?
