How many pages do you give a book before giving up on it? I've noticed recently that my limit tends to be between 70-80 pages total before I give up. When I tried reading The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms by N.K. Jemisin back in November, I read 79 pages before giving up. Last week, I read up to page 75 of A Shadow in Summer by Daniel Abraham before giving up on it and and giving it away. Both times, the reasons I gave them up were the same: the plot didn't excite me, I didn't care about the characters, and the world building wasn't interesting enough.
So
bookfails, how many pages do you read before giving up on a book? Do you have a set limit of pages you read before giving up or does it vary? What are the most common or recent reasons you have for giving up on books? Or are you the sort of reader who can't give up reading a book you've started? I'd love to see what everyone else has to say.
