Fix This Ending: The Lovely Bones

Dec 15, 2010 16:02

I'm not in such a creative mood and even if I was, I would have no desire to write this ending myself. The Lovely Bones ending was so gratutitous and so out of nowhere than a page with a troll face captioned "and then Susie woke up in her bed and it was all just a dream" would have been less jarring.

For those who have blocked it from their memories, The Lovely Bones ends with Susie possessing the body of a girl she sort-of-but-not-really knew in life so that she could have sex with the dude she had the hots for when she was alive. He comes to the commonplace conclusion that, 'jeepers, the girl who died back when I was fourteen is in the body of one of my friends' but it's cool because it's something any normal person would have forseen. Then he has sex with her anyway because there's nothing weird or morally unsound about using a person's body without their consent. Or sex with a dead girl. Personally, I don't know anything more touching than non-chalant rape with some necrophilia vibes thrown in for good measure.

How to fix this ending? Delete it. All of it. Give it the Lifetime movie treatment, have the serial killer get shot in a dramatic police face-off, add zombies--really, there's not much I wouldn't have accepted over the travesty described above.

lets fix this ending!, theme days, kill it with fire, author last names m-s, sex scene failure
