Future warning, I think Laymon is known for having nasty sex torture. This review almost makes me want to read the book if at the least for a good laugh.
Ah... see I didn't know. So I was all like "OMG! WTH?!" when I read this book. It might be a good laugh but I'm not picking it up again to reread it. :( I wanted a story about a mummy dammit! Not rape and torture with a mummy killing spree sprinkled in.
So, I haven't read this book yet. I'm not sure if I ever will now.
Okay, might be a good time to explain some thinking. It sounds like something I would like reading...if it actually dealt with what the synopsis said. I probably wouldn't be bothered by all the torture/rape...if there was actually a point to it. Is there? But I think given this review, the thing that would squick me out the most is the inaccurate synopsis. Seriously, some synopsis writers must be reading a different book than everyone else.
I don't think I would have been as bothered by the torture/rape IF that's why the synopsis said. The story seemed to focus more on that plot line than the other. As for a point, I don't think there was much of one. I remember wondering why it was even there. The mummy eventually makes her way over to where Edward was being held captive. I read a review that said they felt they were reading two different stories that were poorly sown together to make one. I think (since this was published after Richard died) that someone found two of his stories but since they were incomplete the person put them together to make a long book. :-/
And I haven't since. XD Then again books at an airport cost oodles of money. They're like $20 for a softback and $40 for a hardback or something. But it was either buy a book or spend around 10 hours on a plane doing nothing but stare out a window.
