In the interest of full disclosure, I have never seen Star Trek: TOS. I am a big fan of The Next Generation and Voyager, and tolerated a few seasons of Deep Space Nine. That said, I am beyond impressed by this movie. I saw it today and already I'm planning on seeing it at least two more times in theatres-- and the last time I saw a movie more than once in theatres was the first LotR movie, when my teenage self had a thing for Orlando Bloom.
WOW. Was this movie AMAZING or what?!?!?
First of all, Spock sizzled on the screen. I went into this movie expecting Kirk to be the man-candy, but no, Spock stole the show-- and, as it turns out, the girl! I loved the understated Spock/Uhura romance!! Something I was totally NOT expecting!! I am CRAVING Spock/Uhura fanfiction now... I hope someone writes it!!
I loved the storyline. I thought Kirk's character development was fabulous. I was teary over his father in the beginning-- it was melodramatic, yes, but it was so well done. And Captain Pike's line to Kirk after the barfight was golden: "In the twelve minutes your father served as captain, he saved 800 lives. I dare you to do better." OMG WHAT A LINE.
Poor ickle Spock being picked on was sad. I loved his conflicting human/vulcan feelings. And green blood!! Somehow I had forgotten about the green blood!! I think the only time I saw it was Tuvok in Voyager, but still-- a little detail that sucked me into the Star Trek verse.
I just-- there are so many things to say about this movie, and I'm sure people familiar with TOS canon have even more to say!! So please tell me your thoughts-- I am dying to know what everyone thinks!
