I recently when to an author signing (where I met the amazing Tamora Pierce) and it got me thinking about signed books. So I wrote a short signed book meme! Here it is

How many books do you have which are signed by an author or illustrator? (1) The Eyre Affair, (2) The Well of Lost Plots, and (3) Thursday Next: First Among Sequels by Jasper Fforde; (4) The Privilege of Being a Woman by Alice von Hildebrand; (5) His Majesty's Dragon, (6) Throne of Jade, (7) Black Powder War, (8), Empire of Ivory, (9) Victory of Eagles, and (10) Tongues of Serpents by Naomi Novik; (11) A Girl Named Zippy, (12) She Got Up Off the Couch, (13) The Solace of Leaving Early, (14) Something Rising (Light and Swift), (15) The Used World, and (16) Iodine by Haven Kimmel.
Which was the first one you got? A Girl Named Zippy, when I was 16 I believe.
Which was the most recent? All the Naomi Novik books; she came to a local bookstore last year.
Have you ever bought a book already signed by an author? Yes, but not for myself -- I purchased a signed copy of Haven Kimmel's The Used World for my mom, but I later got my own copy of the same book signed by the author in person.
Have you ever forged an author’s signature in a book? No!
Which of your signed books has the best story? Probably A Girl Named Zippy. I was in NC Governor's School at the time, which is this academic-based summer program for high school juniors. I was in a "creative nonfiction" class, and we'd read part of the book as an assignment. When we learned that Haven Kimmel was doing a signing at a nearby bookstore, the whole class went to meet her. We waited until the end of the line so that we could all talk to her in person!
If you could pick one book you own by a living author to get signed, which would you pick? Either The Outlaws of Sherwood by Robin McKinley or To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis. I'd absolutely love to meet both authors, and these are my favorites of their novels.
If you could pick one book you own by a deceased author to get signed, which would you pick? Easy -- Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen!
Do you have a signed book which you haven’t read yet? Yup, haven't gotten around to The Privilege of Being a Woman or the latter three Temeraire books yet.
Have you ever gone to an author signing and not gotten your book signed? Not exactly, although I'm kicking myself for not bringing ALL of my Jasper Fforde books with me to his signings! I would always just bring the most recently published one, which is why only some of my books by him are signed.
