Subtleties In JKR's Name Choices

JKR- Subtle? ***snide laugh***

I mean, really!

Narcissa? (If you don't get it, it's from a Greek mythology- There was a man named Narcissus who was so vain and egocentric that he stared into a lake for days just to see his own reflection. The gods took pity on him and turned him into a flower that would sit by the water. People who are into themselves are called narcissists.)

Malfoy? (The "Mal" part meaning malice or malevolence)

Lucius? (Two interpretations- the more obvious one is Lucifer like the devil. Another one is the religious figure Pope St. Lucius I, who became Pope when St. Cornelius died. Notice- St. Cornelius like Cornelius Fudge.)

Sirius? (Sirius is the name of a star in the constellation Canus (canine) Major, and is the brightest star in the sky. Its nickname is the "Dog Star.")

Remus Lupin? (Remus and Romulus  were twins in Roman mythology who were raised by wolves. Lupin is like Lupine- it means wolfish.)

Professor Vector- the Arithmancy teacher? (A vector is a mathematics term used in trig, calculus, science, and engineering.)

Severus Snape? (Severus like severe, and Snape like snipe or snap, which are both nasty actions.)

On  a final note, interestingly enough, Quirrell is the only character never given a first name.

How 'bout those names, JK?
