So today I left the house without my 2 children and my husband because they were napping. Well my first stop was my moms house and she asked were my kids were. I told her and she was all "You left them there with your Husband sleeping???" She was freaked out because of all the stories you here about children leaving the house or getting hurt badly ( Read more... )

Uh.. what do you and your husband do at night when everyone is in bed? Does one stay awake and keep watch?

And it's while not well.

Wha----?

If you sleep at night (which presumably you do) when your children are sleeping, why would it be wrong to sleep during the day while your children are sleeping?

Unless you sleep like a log, I don't think it's the end of the world to nap while your kids are awake, either. It's not something I've ever done; I hate naps and they ruin me for the rest of the day . . . but depending on the ages and temperaments of your kids, it could be just fine.

Even sleeping like a log isn't so bad. I sleep like that because of medication I take, and the worst that has happened was a friend's toddler who was spending the night decided to paint the stuffed toys with a rash cream.

LOL, we've had stuff like that happen while we were awake. Heck, Ronin burned a spot on the carpet with a super-strong flashlight while in the room with his dad AND another dad, both of whom were perfectly alert.

I used to sleep like a log. . . seven years of being woken up at night sort of put an end to that.

Parents shouldn't sleep, ever- not when the kids are sleeping, nor when they are awake. Something could happen!

i think you mean 'while', not 'well'

and no, I have not slept in 17 years. Methamphetamines help with this. Won't somebody think of the chyldrun?

I'm not a robot. I need to sleep. Even when children are present in my house, I still need to sleep. What do you think single parents do? Plug themselves into a wall to recharge? Sooner or later, the kid is going to be awake when you're not.

Right? I'm a single parent and a bartender. By the time oldest was four she was able to get up and make breakfast for the two of them and put a movie on or something. When they wake up before me now they'll just come and close my door and do their own thing until I get up. They love it because they can do whatever they want without me nagging them to clean up after themselves.

It's definitely one of my favorite milestones. In the past year or so I stopped having to take them to the restroom when we're in public places and I'm so ridiculously happy every time. It's amazing the things that make you happiest after you have kids.
