Circumcision
Before I ask my question, I am going to state that it is not for me or my child. I have no children. This is truly for my English Department head and her 8 year old son.
Would you get an 8 yr old boy circumcised for no medical reason?
Today, my Panel Head informed me that over Xmas, she is getting her 8 yr old son circumcised. I asked her why. She said it was time. I asked her why she never had it done when the boy was a baby or younger. She said when he was born, she asked and the doc said "No, not now". She asked when the boy was 4. The doc said "No, not now". Recently, the doc told her that now that he is 8, this is the last year he will perform said surgery on the boy.
I asked her why now. Medical reasons? Is her son having issues with cleanliness? Dad is cut and for some, that is a reason for them to look similar? No, no and no. The dad said that by NOT circumcising, it would make the penis smaller! O__o I am baffled by that. Truly. Baffled.
They are not Jewish. This is not religious. There is no medical reason. I should clarify that they are in Hong Kong and a local Chinese family.
She left the staff room and I was googling and she said "Oh good, you do research on it and I will read it later." BUAH? You're getting surgery on your son and you have NOT researched it yourself?
