As long as they're not abusing the kids I'm fine with it.

I love the way we make the distinction between "addiction to painkillers" (presumably prescription meds) and those awful awful street drugs that dirty people do. There isn't a difference -- high is high, and the drug-seeking behaviour is identical in both groups. So, like much else, it depends on the level of addiction. I've known people hooked on opiates who'd steal your back teeth for the next high, and then I've known people who only smoke or shoot up to unwind and manage to hold themselves to that line.

Amen to this.

I didn't mean to offend anyone. I simply stated "addiction to painkillers" because that is the issue.

Thanks for all the helpful advice though....oh wait....

Wait, where was this distinction made in this post?

I could go for some prescription painkillers about now.

Me too. My throat and body are both so sore from whatever evil virus I have caught from these "dirty kids."

Thanks. I'm an atheist and, therefore, a speshul snowflake.

I agree that it matters how I found out, since that could be pretty indicative of the overall situation and how it's being handled.

I would probably be more likely to encourage the kids to hang out at our house, though, which I would do in most situations where I thought the parent was having a particularly stressful time. I would also probably offer/insist on doing any driving the visits or other activities would involve.

And my kid and I might need to have another chat about prescription painkillers anyway, since unless some things change radically, Mommy herself probably has a stash, and we might need to review why that is and how those drugs are prescribed and handled by me/in our home, so kid doesn't freak out. (I tend to assume my kids will be neurotic drama queens like me, LOL.)

How would I know they have an addiction if it was prescription medicine? Did they tell me?

In this scenario, you're also God.

Or, you've wiretapped the phones at your childrens' friends' houses like a responsible parent would.

Well in that case I'd smote their asses if the addict came near my child.

I see you're vengeful OT God, not that pansy-ass NT God. God for you.
