Multiples up the wazoo

Sextuplets Becoming More Common

I don't know the cost of raising like six kids or more, but it angers me when couples who undergo fertility treatment and end up with high order multiples get a lot of handouts. When the McCaughey septuplets were born, the family got a free house, free cars, etc. Now a new little group of six is getting college scholarships, among everything else the family has collected.

I have never donated to a family with high order multiples, so this is really no skin off my back, but it still pisses me off. I'd rather college scholarships, houses and cars go to families who had a parent die in Iraq, a single mother returning to school, or to this family, who has the only set of deaf-blind triplets in the world (and they didn't use fertility drugs, it says in the family's documentary).

It also kind of irks me when parents risk putting all their kids through being born prematurely or dying, and then living with possible consequences for life, just so they can have their own kids... but that's another can of worms.

So what are your thoughts on all these higher order multiples and everything? The incidence of multiples is increasing. What do you think of that?
