For those of you who are accustomed to seeing me online a lot, the next couple weeks might be a little bit different. Okay, long story short, lightning fried the router on my parents' computer, which was supplying my computer in my room with internet via a wireless receiver. The new router they got isn't compatible with my receiver, and my receiver is the only one left ON THE FACE OF THE PLANET that's compatible with Windows 98 (which is what my computer runs). I was considering upgrading my operating system to Windows XP to resolve the issue, but then my computer's almost a decade old, is rickety as hell from upgrades, and has NEVER taken well to software upgrades in the least (install a new driver or codec, and spend the next month fixing a torrent of errors, I dread to think what an operating system swap would've done). So~o, I've been without internet since Friday, and trying to think about the best method of fixing it. Well, my folks and I got to thinking, and it's been decided that the best course of action would be to just start fresh and get a new, up-to-date computer entirely. Since I'm short of cash right now, they'll be picking it up later this week (since there's a really sweet deal at Best Buy that apparently expires soon), and I'll owe them however much it costs in the coming months. It's a pretty nice little setup, with an AMD Athlon 64 processor, ATI Radeon graphics card, DVD burner, 512MB RAM, 160GB harddrive, etc. But the thing is, it'll be a couple weeks before it can be set up and my internet restored, so for the next half-month or so, I'll mostly be using the school computers and my folks' PC. I won't be online much, and I'll probably only be on IM or IRC maybe a couple times a week. Just a heads up for those of you I chat with regularly.
