So, my first German LJ entry! Whoo!!
Well, what to say....Germany rocks, obviously. But here's why:
1. No open alcohol law, meaning one can walk around drinking whatever they want without any official or social sanction.
2. Much more industrial here, much older, much more beautiful. I don't know, America tries to be authentic in history but fails, terribly. Here everything is just as it
should be, no pretensions, no flashy show, no disguise for ugliness and no shadow of feeling.
3. The clubs are way better, the music rocks, the locations are in amazing places, the people are more varied and a lot of the time more fun. Of course drunk and trying to fuck, but more fun about it.
4. The food is much more straight forward, again I don't know how to explain it, but shopping is way more fun because you know exactly what you're buying, as opposed to the advertisements on EVERYTHING, and all in containers. Smaller, better, and far tastier.
5. The people are way more real.
6. There is art everywhere, in all kinds of ways.
7. There is this dynamic where everyone is still awkward about what has happened, but at the same time just going with the flow. It makes an interesting environment.
8. EVERYONE DRESSES REALLY COOL!!!
9. The entire society, in general, seems to function with way more efficiency and with purpose. As opposed to the random, megalomaniac, profit oriented and alienated culture Americans have come to know as reality.
Last weekend I went to a metal show, a club on the 13th floor of an office building, and to this other bad club in the basement. I didn't like the club so much, so we went around to this other street where they had a pink fur bar and a pirate bar, along with bars on every corner, and all kinds of fun themes. On Thursday night we all met, as a group, in this one bar to meet Germans who the programme directors were bringing, but I felt really weird the whole time and I'm convinced people died there. The metal show was AWESOME!! I really wanted to talk to people, but I don't know German, at all, and I feel retarded for only knowing english, so I haven't met any Germans yet.
The people here are really fun, but party people, who hang at bars and only kinda into clubs and dancing. But, I've gone out most every night with different people, with varying degrees of success. There's this one girl who I feel I get along with really well, but shes always being weird and acting all bitchy, but then acts like my best friend sometimes. I really don't get it.
Theres a couple people here to who are all about themselves and being super cool all the time, so we don't get along all the time, if ever. Mostly the latter side of the case. But, for the most part I really like everyone, and I hope the feeling is reciprocated.
Well, this is extensive enough for now, more to come.
Ich leibe Deutshland!
