I have a camera!!! It's a crappy one, but it means this post will have pictures!
Yesterday at 10.00 I decided to do something fun. "Pinglin?" I thought.. Nah, it takes too long to get there I wouldn't have much time to do anything fun.
How about Yangmingshan...?
I get on the MRT, and I seem to remember you want to start at shulin station... So I get off there and ask around. The tourist bureau seemed to think you can't get a direct bus to the mountains, although I remember doing it, I'd just got the MRT station wrong. Anyway, for variety I decide to do what they suggest and take two busses to 二子站 (站= station)。
At 二子站 there were a whole load of people, and a big road type hiking trail towards another area - not my kind of place at all. The trail led to a big flat landscaped area (there was someone strimming the lawn) called 二子平 (平=flat) with lots of older people doing exercise or picnicking. However, there was an interesting looking mountain (二子山), and I finally found the sort of trail I was looking for.
The white thing dangling down is a marker left by other hiking groups to let the group know they're going the right way. Sometimes you see loads of them hanging from one branch, where lots of hiking groups have been that way. It was helpful for me too, to find the path. This trail is not a place to go if you can't stand creepy-crawlies. Lots of hoppy things jumped into my legs, for example.
