You've Got Mail wishes it was this awesome. I love epistolary writing, so maybe I'm biased. I loved the slightly dark humor of it, and how even the most minor characters really seemed to pop (Milo, for example).

I hadn't realized the movie was a remake. I adore movies made back in the Code era, so I will have to look it up.

Thank you very much. You've Got Mail is actually not my absolute favorite; I find it a bit insipid, so I'm glad that you found this to have a bit more of an edge.

The Shop Around the Corner is an interesting movie, and has a lot more to it than I expected. I'm not a movie expert, new or old, but it seems like these days the small, domestic movies - less settings, fewer characters, no explosions or aliens - tend to have very predictable, fairytale kind of plots. Older movies in that vein seem to be more morally ambiguous, which I tend to find more interesting. Plus there's this whole thing about SAtC being set in Budapest and filmed in 1940, right before the war, so there's a definite hint of subdued panic, economic concerns, and waiting for the other shoe to drop. (Hmm, sounds familiar.)

I'm not much of a Meg Ryan fan, so You've Got Mail never really did it for me. That, and it was sappy in a bad way. As for The Shop Around the Corner, I've totally added it to my Netflix queue. I'm really excited about seeing it now.

Tom Hanks weirdly creeps me out, actually. :) I hope you like the movie and that I haven't oversold it!

I really like this! It would be really cool to see it with images and stuff too. :D

Thank you! Yes, images would be awesome - pictures for the postcards, letterhead, the newspaper page, that kind of thing. I thought about trying to make some, but since it's not my area of expertise, I knew I wouldn't get them done in time.

Oh, this was so much fun! It's cute, without being overly sappy. You really made the format work and I love the flow of the story. Great job on making the characters rounded with so little info.

Thanks. I'm so glad to hear that the characters worked for you despite the untraditional format.

This is SO awesome! I love the format you used, it works out so well with the story line, and really gave it a kick of originality. I like that you used the basic plot without taking the movie verbatim. Great job, thank you for sharing!

Thank you. As soon as I thought of the story idea I knew that I wanted to try to write it in epistolary format. I'm so glad you liked it.

I really enjoyed this :) Did you base it more on Shop Around the Corner than You've Got Mail? I really liked both films and I thought you translated them to your fic really well!

Thanks very much. It's probably a bit more Shop Around the Corner than You've Got Mail - the whole subplot with the boss's wife sleeping with an employee and the boss firing the wrong guy, then trying to kill himself is taken from SAtC, anyway. I wanted to update the penpals thing to be online. I actually wrote some of the scenes where Jared and Jensen met while playing videogames online, but I ended up taking them out because they seemed to slow down the pace of the story a lot.
