weird & beautiful

Last night, I dreamed that I was a Marine -- even though nobody addressed me as such, and we weren't in a war or training or anything I sort of "knew" it. The forest digi-cams I wore all the time also kind of confirmed it. All sorts of interesting things happened in the dream, but I woke up an hour late and wasn't able to write them down immediately because I had to run out the door for church!

One of the things I do remember is that there was a massive night-time assembly of Marines on a parade deck (like a Hitler rally from old pictures), and I was chosen along with about two dozen others to go to the front. We formed a tight circle, shoulder-to-shoulder, and the CO told us to stand still and not break formation no matter what happened. Soon, we saw a helicopter-like-thing descending toward us and realized it was going to land in our circle. Holy cow scary! But we stood still against the wind and debris and everything, and it made the landing fine.

The scary part wasn't over, though, at least not for me. Out of the "helicopter" came a -- hmm -- mechanical alien, about the size of the stuffed Disney characters that kids take pictures with in the parks. It was shiny and rounded and smooth, and its parts moved without any noise. It came up to each of us in the circle and bumped against us -- I could tell it was trying to "hug" us, but it had no arms. I pretty much freaked out internally, and as soon as it moved away from me, I scampered away into the night.
