new years meme

1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
Well ... I quit my job of 5+ years without knowing where I'd be going next; I'm still not technically "settled" anywhere. I also sent my best friend and brother off to Iraq and keep in correspondence with him from across the sea. I celebrated Christmas without him at home for the first time. I had the chance to go cruising for the first time on Royal Caribbean. I got involved with cruise and conference planning and got to write contracts for bigwigs like Josh McDowell. I survived Jan Crouch, Paul Crouch, and Chi-Chi. I used a private detective to check out a potential boyfriend. I sat in the fifth row at Epcot's Candlelight Processional. Aaaaaaaaaand more.

2. Did you keep your new year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I have never really made resolutions. In jest, I say each year that "I resolve not to start smoking this year," so I guess you can say I was successful at that again.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth or get pregnant?
There were a couple of ladies from church, and of course sillypilgrim (go for a New Year's baby, Peggy!), but nobody especially "close" to me.

4. Did anyone close to you get married?
Nathan and Becky from church, but nobody super-close. I was a guest at one wedding this year, which is less than usual, but I coordinated about a dozen this year for clients.

5. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes, my grandmother died in August.

6. Travel?
You know, I didn't realize the extent of my travels this year until a survey I had to take recently! January: Contending conference, which was local. February: Pennsylvania and the Horde. March: Bahamas with Doris. April: Naples and the Everglades with my parents. June: Creation Museum and Michigan with Mom and other female relatives. August: Somewhere? Somewhere? September: California with my family as Titus's sendoff to Iraq, and also boating on the St. Johns with family. October: Camping out in High Springs for the Sovereign Grace celebration. November: California again to see my adorable moneysocal. December: Retrotiki Island for Dawn's birthday party.

7. Did you move anywhere?
I moved the extra pillow from my head to my knees. That's all.

8. What was the best month?
Each month had its difficulties, but May held the special treat of a wonderful new courtship for me! And then in June, I had good bonding time with family members ... although that was through difficulties as well. October was the breakthrough month when I stopped being angrily unemployed and became happily unemployed. Hmm, yes.

9. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
Gerry's presence here in Central Florida, close friendships with some church people, and a clear "ministry" or mission for myself.

10. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 11: The day TBN took over the Holy Land. August 21: The day that Jan Crouch trashed the Special Events stuff. November 29: The first time I hugged Gerry. December 8: Retrotiki Island!

11. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Shutting down my Special Events department at the Holy Land with professionalism and dignity; I was very specific about doing it well, and although certain parts hurt like mad -- how about having to personally lay off 17 team members in one day? -- I think that God was pleased, and those with whom we had contracts were honored.

12. What was your biggest failure?
Allowing sin to have the best of me for a month as I stewed and raged about the going-ons at the Holy Land.

13. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Always. Hello, you're looking at the original Klutz Lady right here! The more serious injuries were a broken bone in my right wrist toward the beginning of the year, and more recently a deep cut that I super-glued rather than pay money to have stitched up!

14. What was the best thing you bought?
Pomegranates. Also, in May I hosted a "thanksgiving" party at Olive Garden for 15 friends and acquaintances; that was good!

15. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Sandy Wells, who served her dying mother exquisitely; my brother, who perseveres through the most uncomfortable and excruciating situations in Iraq.

16. Whose behavior made you appalled and/or depressed?
TBN and its executives and officers; a certain Bridezilla; certain acquaintances who changed in character for the worse.

17. Where did most of your money go?
27% for bills, 21% for charity, 11% for auto, 9% for food, 8% for gifts, 8% for clothing (bought real jewelry this year), 6% for vacation, 3% healthcare, 2% insurance, everything else under 1%.

18. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
eBay! I also got depressed about eBay when my selling streak ended ... but oh well, you take the good and the bad together.

19. What song will always remind you of 2007?
"Young Folks" by Peter, Bjorn, & John, it will always remind me of Gerry who I got serious about in 2007.

20. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Hmmmmmm... Tough one. Less giddy, more peaceful.
ii. thinner or fatter? Same ol' same ol' ... I probably am less in shape physically, though.
iii. richer or poorer? A lot less cash, a lot less income, a lot more trust in God's provision.

21. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Outdoor activities like hiking and kayaking!

22. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Sitting around inside; watching junk TV.

23. How will you be spending New Year's Eve/Day?
Eve: Sitting on the balcony watching fireworks from Celebration, Epcot, and Downtown Disney simultaneously while talking to Gerry on the phone. Day: Watching a matinee of Juno at the movie theater, and then maybe going on a hike.

24. What was an unexpected surprise?
How much I enjoyed taking the time to cook meals from scratch, which was something I got to do a lot of during the months of unemployment; playing with Heidi's rats; watching Enchanted with Gerry.

25. Did you fall in love in 2007?
Yeah, like I'm really going to answer that here! A whole bunch of you people would like to know. ;-)

26. What was the best concert you've been to this year?
I'm not sure that I was at a concert this year! Of course, Dis

27. What was your favorite TV program?
I rediscovered and fell in love with The Simpsons again! Kid Nation was a great new show, and Lost, House, and What Not To Wear remained favorites.

28. Do you dislike anyone now that you didn't dislike this time last year?
Yes, that would be correct.

29. What was the best book you read?
Oh gosh. I enjoyed Crime and Punishment, but other favorites were Atonement Child and Sacred Marriage. I am sure there were other favorites!

30. What was your greatest musical discovery?
That hip-hop can be played on a cello.

31. What did you want and get?
Physical and financial provision during several months of unemployment; boy, did God ever provide for me!

32. What did you want and not get?
A cutting board.

33. What was your favorite film of this year?
My favorite was probably The Queen, with Babel as a close runner-up. Ratatouille was a nice surprise, and The Bourne Ultimatum was much anticipated and appreciated.

34. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I turned 27 this year, and I celebrated by taking three friends out to Bergamo's Italian Restaurant. It's fancy-schmancy and the waiters all sing opera.

35. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Immeasurably? Wowsers... I'd have to say nothing!

36. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Ahh... Hmm. I learned a lot from What Not To Wear and tried to be more careful with my clothing, but also I was following the concept of "shopping in my own closet."

37. What kept you sane?
My precious gift of a furball cat, Figwit. He provided me with a constant responsibility, and also with much comfort and friendship.

38. What political issue stirred you the most?
Mmmm, maybe immigration? I don't know that it stirred me the most so much as it was the issue I investigated the most. Issues that "stir" me tend to be about the government intruding where it has no business being.

39. Who did you miss?
Rich. Titus. Gerry. Craig. Chelsea. Elisabeth. Doris. Niki.

40. Who was the best new person you met?
Heidi!
