figwit's adventure

Figwit ran away today. Debbie was out walking him -- because I've been laid up with the flu for a couple of days here -- and he got out of his harness in the couple of seconds that it took for her to turn her back. By the shocked look on her face, I knew what had happened the instant she stepped into the apartment, before she silently held out the empty leash and harness.

We both went outside then, and started hunting. It was the time of day when people walk their dogs, so we enlisted several of them to help. No worries, Figwit likes dogs, he really does. I also made up flyers to post and hand out. Debbie and her crew of searchers stayed out sever hours after dark, although I'd come in earlier.

I felt a strange absence of worry, not that I necessarily thought everything was going to be "okay," but that I knew I was doing what I could within reason and that Figwit's return was really out of my hands. It was a God-thing.

Just as Ben and I were looking up the numbers to local animal shelters, the apartment door opened and I heard a frightened meow. Debbie had found Figwit! He jumped into my arms and stayed there for a while, his lil' heart pounding like crazy! Then he proceeded to throw up over and over and over again.

I'm so glad he's back!

praise, figwit
