Ottawa-Bound

In case the memo didn't get around to everyone, Sebastian and I are making a move to Ottawa at the end of the month. Yes, you got that right, less than two weeks away! And have we started packing as of yet? Well, I'm hoping to START this evening if at all possible ...

I have mixed feelings over the move to Ottawa. We have been "moving" for almost a year at this point, and to be honest it's drug out for so long that now I find I don't have much excitement over it, just a relief that it's finally happening. I also have mixed feelings over it because it seems as if we came rather close to moving to Hawaii. I got really excited about the possibility of moving there, maybe too excited. With such excitement, of course, comes disappointment. A lot of it in my case, apparently.

I've finally mourned the loss of that option, I think, although the feelings are still a little raw. I don't talk about it much with people because doing so just brings up all those raw emotions again. This is also an excellent example of why I rarely get excited about things anymore.

Enough depressing talk, though - I've done way too much of that of late!

There is one thing that has been stirring the excitement factor for me, however, and that's our new place! I was in Ottawa last weekend to sign the lease on the new pad, which I think we'll love! It's a town home off Montreal Rd., three floors and three bedrooms. The basement level has a rec room and a huge laundry / storage area, there's a small yard around back, and the bathrooms even have windows! And YES, you heard that right - more than one bathroom! Whoohoo!

I've always been something of a nest-builder, and I've actually been drifting to sleep thinking about where to put what. Oddly, whenever I think about the new place or the move at work, I'm happier ... and when I think about work while at work, I'm not so happy. It's added quite the interesting dichotomy to my day. :o)

The move really fixes a lot about our situation. First off, neither Seb or I like Toronto! It's just not the right fit for us. There's also so much more access to nature in Ottawa, as well as access to most of Seb's immediate family. The new pad has a list of features over our current place to boot. There's just a lot of good coming out of this move, even if I don't always remember that.

And for any and all of you Ottawa peeps, be warned that I'm on the lookout for IRL friends!
