I'll not disturb the rest of the world with my views on whether former university tutor
Clayton Weatherston is a murderer or manslaughterer for stabbing his ex-girlfriend 216 times, but this at least requires comment.
He's giving evidence at the moment, and has described his ex as someone who wanted melodrama in her life*, citing Austen's Pride and Prejudice as an example. Apart from the reporters describing the romance as "Mr Darcy and Mrs(!) Bennet", he thinks that her identifying with Elizabeth Bennet puts her into the realm of drama queens. Honestly, one of the most sensible, humorous, practical and wise literary creations of all time. If you want romantic melodrama, Isabella Linton's your model, not Elizabeth bloody Bennet. Better people than him have mistaken Austen's comedy for romance, but this guy obviously considers himself a genius. Gah. At least Isabella Linton got away relatively unscathed.
*because her diary entries describe their relationship as pretty melodramatic.
