Farewell to 2011

Dec 31, 2011 18:35

Overall, this has been a good year for me. I am happier than I've been in awhile. I broke up with Ron early on and broke up with the Church in the spring. The latter was much more difficult, but mostly I am at peace with my decision.

I went to New York City last February and met someone I've known online since 2008. It may be silly to spend a lot of our time sitting in an expensive hotel room talking, but that was truly the best part.

In July, I flew to Las Vegas to see my brother, Don, and Randy. Again, expensive, but it had been too long! After cat sitting for a friend last year, they have now adopted two adult cats of their own. :)

My car was wrecked while parked on the street, just days before I got my own driveway put in, but it was drivable. It's fixed now and all is well.

Dragon*Con was its usual crazy wonderfulness. A geek's family reunion.

The high point of this year, by far, was ALEP 2. I will be posting more about that when I want an escape from winter. ;) I'm sure there will be an ALEP 3, and if you love Lord of the Rings and you haven't been to one of these events, don't miss the next one. Shaker Village IS the Shire.

For many of my friends, 2011 has been a rough one. Many of us have made changes or had them forced upon us.

Many have lost jobs or changed jobs, broken up, gotten together, moved, had a baby, lost a loved one, or been the victim of a natural or man-made disaster.

In the lgbt world, 2011 has seen the end of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," and that is something to celebrate.

Whether this was a good or a bad year for you, I hope 2012 is a better one.

And now, I present the most awesome 2011 music mash-up EVA!
