"Straight-Acting"
Just a random thought here, based on my over-the-top "gay apparel" reference in the Rick Perry post.
I was speaking to an older gentleman who was out back in the 70's. He said that people wouldn't have known if he hadn't mentioned it, because they said he was "straight-acting."
This phrase is tossed around a lot, and I think straight people who say it may think that every gay guy walks around all limp-wristed, wearing lipstick and a feather boa and talking with a lisp.
(Gay guys who say this are possibly dealing with some internalized homophobia.)
I think most of my friends know that the lgbt population is just as diverse as the rest of us, but some people are still figuring this out.
