Joe.My.God.: Tennessee Housing Official Says Gays Are Like Murderers and Drug Dealers

Greetings, Ms. Barnes.

Guess what? You're going to get your fifteen minutes of fame! Your letter to HUD is showing up on blogs and Facebook. Perhaps it will go viral and shine an even bigger spotlight on just how backward and ignorant Monroe County, TN is. A lot of people are going to be up in your business.

You may even get some death threats, because some people hate you as much as you hate them. But I will be civil.

I heard about the fire that destroyed the home of a lovely lesbian family. That place didn't look like the home of violent murderers who didn't work and who dealt and used drugs. It looked like a place where I would have wanted to stop in and have a glass of lemonade on the porch while I admired all the beautiful landscaping that they did themselves.

Your local law enforcement, which must be lead by a descendent of Roscoe P. Coltrane, has yet to declare this arson, despite the fact that explosions that were seen above the trees came from an all-electric house that had no combustible fuel to blow up, and despite the word "QUEERS" spray painted on their garage. The residents were instead asked if they'd painted it themselves.

The insurance company, perhaps run by yet another Coltrane relative, since there's probably been way too much inbreeding amongst your population there, has yet to reimburse the family for the loss of their home, despite the fact that this happened over six months ago.

And now, we are learning of your letter of impending doom if those nasty gays are allowed to live in public housing.

Let me give you a word of advice: A disclaimer such as “this is not a matter of discrimination” is almost always followed by something discriminatory. Your letter is no exception. You are prejudiced. You cannot see it, but it is quite clear to others outside your little circle of friends and relatives. So you would do well to keep your opinions to yourself and stop listening to your local townsfolk and preachers, who apparently don’t follow the example of Jesus, as He spent quite a lot of time among the “undesirables” of society. LGBT people are the Samaritans of today. You can find relevant information about them on the internet. You can find a lot of irrelevant information there, too, because it’s a free country. But Wikipedia is a good, neutral place to start. Try stretching your mind a bit, if you can.

In the meantime, congratulations on reinforcing to HUD just how necessary anti-lgbt discrimination rules are in its policies.
