no no, youはわしのcarに乗れ

These old people I'm meeting talk exactly the way I imagine Johnny Kitagawa must talk. SERIOUSLY IT'S AMAZING.

There are a group of maybe 7-8 old Japanese-American men that we have been interacting with here, and they speak a pretty high level of Japanese. However, there are certain words that they will always say in English, or katakana-ized Japanese. All of them.

Instead of saying いいえ, it's "no."

Ex-- バナナは好きですか?
   No, no, no わしはフルーツ食べない。

"Car" always replaces 車
"Wife" always replaces 妻・家内etc
"House" always replaces 家
"You" almost always replaces あなた

These aren't hard words, so it's not that they've forgotten the Japanese. It's so strange! I wonder how this developed, but all of these men talk like this regardless of how otherwise normal their Japanese is.

Also, after over half a year abroad I am completely overwhelmed by American portion sizes. I can never finish anything and if I push myself, I am overtaken by food babies and regret. I do not miss this.
