for those who know me in real life, you know that i really am an accident waiting to happen. you will be one of the many who have seen my bruises and have said any or all of the following

it certainly wasn't my finest moments (or maybe it was). it was a fake nose ring - the "stud" sat on the outside of your nose, held in place by a magnet on the inside. in retrospect, it was a dumb idea to buy it from that kiosk in the mall. i had read all the dos and don'ts of the magnet (don't wear when sleeping or when you are sick) and thought it would be fine. i was wearing it the next day and it was rainy and chilly outside (it was november) and i get sniffly in that weather and i had a little sniff and then the "stud" fell into my lap and i said, "i think i sniffed the magnet up my nose".
anyway, it was up there and up there pretty good and i had to be taken to an outpatients to get it out. i was patient with "foreign object up nose" - something that only happens to toddlers. when the doc saw me, she seemed to think i was an idiot and told me to lie down while she got the nose tray. lying down really hurt - because there was a foreign object pressing up against my sinuses. as i was lying back, i felt it go down my throat and when the doc came back with her nose tray i said, "i think i swallowed it" (the xray confirmed that it was no longer in my nose). i was then subject to jokes from family and friends about my "magnetic personality" and to be careful around the cutlery in meal hall.
sadly, i never knew if i passed it or not. so i guess it is possible that there is a magnet in me somewhere, although i imagine i passed it and didn't notice (it wasn't that big).

As someone who once suffered from chronic sinusitus, I sympathize greatly with the whole "pressing on the sinuses" thing. Ouch.
