William "Billy" Masayuki Tachikoma

His four-part name was part of his story.

William because he was old. Billy because has wasn't that mature. Masayuki because he was descended from a man with that name who was the pride of his family. And Tachikoma because he was an odd combination of innocence and toughness, and he reminded people who knew him of a robot. He was not expressive with his emotions, preferring to declare something "funny" or "hilarious" rather than laughing, for example, and he relied on the literal meaning of spoken conversation rather than pay attention to nuances and tone.

Leon Matsunaga is probably going to be the bad guy in my story, insofar as anyone in my story will be bad. Everyone believes that what they do is at least okay under the circumstances, if not actually justified, and nothing justified is bad. We all have our justifications and Leon had his.

William and Leon were acquainted, and had been so for many years. Nonetheless, to say that they were friends would be overstatement.
