So my 2004 NaNo difficulties were caused by a failure to outline the plot past the first 10,000 words or so (and were, uh, kinda resolved but not really by raging, semi-relevant verbosity. Twenty thousand in two days.
NEVA FORGET). Then my 2005 NaNo effort died as soon as I realized that I was not going to be able to juggle studying for the GRE with mono recovery and novel duties.
This year I am not sick, nor am I taking any standardized tests. And I have a couple thousand words of glorious OUTLINE, complete with Roman numerals and capital letters and neat layers of indents. Everyone and everything has a name, so no more placeholders like "Bananaland." I spontaneously generated one major character and eliminated another during the process, but that's okay, since that's what outlines are for.
I left myself built-in wordsinks, too. Oh, yes. I am prepared.
Is it wrong that I'm excited by the near-infinite potential of the bodycount in this thing? I think I'll keep a running total with tally marks.
