In a nutshell

Looking back on my "recent" posts, I realize I haven't been on LJ, not REALLY on it, for 2 years.  I haven't made a non-apologetic entry, or an entry not using the words "I'm alive" for 2 years!  And while I'd like to blame that on a guy, really all I can blame is my own laziness.  And a broken computer.

So please.  Fill me in on your lives.  Since ( Read more... )

Last two years, huh? Let's see...

I moved a couple times. First I moved to an apartment near downtown San Jose. I had to get out of where I was pretty quickly, since the company I work for was selling the place to a condo developer who was going to kick all the residents out anyway, so I wasn't able to really take my time picking a new place. I stayed there for about a year, then I moved to where I am now, the Monkey House. It's a duplex. I'm pretty content here.

I'm still at the same job. Keeping pretty busy.

One day I decided to find out how much all the stock options I'd gotten a few years ago were worth, and holy crap, they were worth a lot! So I exercised most of 'em and got a new car, a Mazda3 hatchback. I got rid of that stupid EuroVan I was driving around.

The band I was doing with my ex Katie/pollytrance, Left On Calliope, made some more songs and played some shows. Then we got a third member. Then Katie and the third member became a couple. That, uh, didn't work. Soon she and I had a huge blowout which resulted in the band breaking up and us not speaking for months. We're ok now though.

Deathline International continued work on our new album. It's still not done. We did do some pretty cool shows last year, including opening for Frontline Assembly, and shows in Portland (one of my favorite places on earth), Seattle (my first time performing there), and Salt Lake City. This year we've been selected to perform at Convergence 13 (again in Portland), opening for Skinny Puppy! So lately I've been busy getting myself ready for that. I briefly quit the band last year because I didn't know if I wanted to do that and only that long-term, but I'm more content with it now, possibly because I've discovered that I have been able to do my own stuff and play with another band occasionally and still have everything work.

The other band is my former bandmate Justin's solo project. We were in a metal band called Spitkiss (as was almost everyone else in his solo band), but this stuff is indie/folk/pop-rock. It's different. It's fun. It's an easy gig since everything's already written and everyone's learned the songs. It's fun to hang out with those guys. Plus I'd wanted to play with a live drummer again for years and now I finally am.

About a month ago I joined 24 Hour Fitness and I go all the time. I just got home from there, in fact. I'd already been thinking about getting in better shape, but with this opening for Skinny Puppy thing, what with it being the band's biggest show ever and possibly my biggest audience ever (high school marching band doesn't count), I'd better look and perform GOOD!

I'm still the most single guy in the universe.

I guess that's about it!
