From a writer's standpoint, one of the more interesting aspects of the 1001 movies list is to see what Hollywood (and others) do with the literary source material - at least when it's something I'm aware of.
There are few books with a higher profile than Wuthering Heights, and it has been adapted to film and
very strange musical videos a lot over the years. However, it never ceases to bug me that the love Between Kathy and Heathcliff is portrayed as fierce and immortal instead of bitter and angry. This misconception was probably started with today's installment of the movies list:
1939's filming of the novel. While not diverging terribly from the central plot points of the first half of the book, it does turn a novel of the moors into a love story. Not quite what one would ideally want.
Anyhow, a good film - with a great Heathcliff by
Laurence Olivier.
Anyone have any thoughts?
