Neo-Confederates

The Civil War reenactment was not quite as big and touristy as it was last year. (I think it was the weather but my dad (as usual) blames it on the economy.) We met our friends at the swimming hole. They said that the only reason most of them were there was because they were rednecks who would do anything to shoot and have people watch. I think that that is what most of the "soldiers" there came for, but there were a few who were obviously not just Neo-Confederates but history buffs. Their clothes were the most authentic and even their way of walking and speaking seemed more period.

While most of the people there were genuinely nice, there were a few who were real [insert plural noun]. For instance, the guy who was selling frybread. He got into a conversation with a soldier and he said,
"If I was in charge in Iraq, there would be no fooling around. We would get the job done." Then he said,"There is no reasoning with unreasonable people." The people around him nodded. "They have to be beaten into submission."
Bullshit! I was thinking.
But the soldier nodded and he said something to the effect of, "I agree and my German ancestors would too."

The bastard! I absolutely couldn't believe it. All my life I had heard of these thing as the worst of traits. To want to beat something till it crawled in front of you and to be a Nazi. I can't imagine a person I would like less and yet there they were. I guess the Reenactment brought them out. There were a few other things that bothered me but I wont go into them now.
