Coachella 2006 Part 2

Madonna day.

This was one crazy experience. Getting very little sleep, waking up early, getting a ride to the polo fields, running from the main entrance to where they sectioned off the mojave and dance tent. Hearing Madonna sound check and then bam…

The Madge dash.

Notes:
  • It’s never a good idea to have 2,000 Madonna fans lined up across the stretch of a football field with only 30 security guards to control the chaos when they let the caution tape go down. I really wish someone had filmed everyone being such freaks.
  • Between laughing at how ridiculous it all was to trying not to step on anyone falling, we made it into a second line up and were part of the lucky ones to get wristbands for the pit.
  • Waited in line again all day to get back into the pit hoping to score good spots. We did.
  • During Paul Oakenfold, the rumor was that Brittany Murphy was going to pop on stage to sing. He only played a remix of their hot song together.
  • Very glad I was a girl scout. We were prepared. Lots of water, granola bars, and ear plugs helped the long wait once inside the pit.
  • The anticipation was driving everyone mad. All of the sets were delayed in the dance tent. So Paul didn’t finish until after his scheduled time. This meant Madonna was going on later.
  • Security attempted to push everyone in the pit back 10 feet to let in ultra vips. It was a crack head idea to let grandpas and little kids into this area. None of them lasted long when the crowd started surging forward. Really. If you’re wearing a suit in the middle of the desert and you’re with your grandkids, go see Madonna at the Staples Center where there are seats. Are you out of your mind?
  • It was sticky and hot in that sea of people. I had one second of almost losing it because I couldn’t take one more body part wiping sweat on me.
  • A guy in a wheelchair ended up seperating me from Eddie right before Madonna took the stage. This turned out to be not so bad. This cool guy behind me helped me not fall over onto the wheelchair when things got crazy. And we both used this to stop fans from pushing too much. The wheelchair angle really gets people to settle down.
  • When she came on stage, everyone around me lost it. I couldn’t tell how the overall crowd was reacting but all I know is, all around me, people were losing their minds screaming and jumping up and down.
  • The wait was all worth it. Seeing her 3 feet from my face was unreal. She looked incredible, sounded wonderful, and I couldn’t believe I was there. In the center of the pit. Seeing her perform. “Everybody” was probably the highlight but there wasn’t one bad moment. It was just amazing.
  • After it was all over, I finally got to peel myself away from all those bodies. Eddie and I grabbed each other and I lost my emotions for a second and tried not to cry. What can I say? It really was emotional for me to see someone I’ve admired since I was little girl up close like that.
  • Right as I was losing it, we saw Danny Masterson. I looked like hell, my eyes were red, and I was soaked with sweat (my own and other people) but we still asked I could take a picture with him. Well, I made Eddie ask him. Danny was extremely sweet to me.
  • We had to literally climb out of the pit to get air. The small entrance was not a good exit. We rushed to get water and food and meet up with our friends who were not as crazy as us. After seeing a bit of the Scissor Sisters, headed back to the condo to crash. A crazy weekend. But so worth it and so much fun.
