Pride is all well and good. If we didn't have pride, we would not be able to distinguish between accomplishment and failure. On the other hand, outright lack of modesty and an excess of pride detaches us from the world around us, and often makes others uncomfortable. Pride cometh before a fall, and modesty is the best policy, if you'll pardon my use of cliches.
I, myself, happen to be a relatively talented Go player, but imagine if I flaunted this fact to everyone I met. They might grow to resent me for my talents. Just having talent to begin with will no doubt bring us both admirers and people who envy us. You may actually decrease the amount of people who envy you or harbor other ill-feelings toward you just by being a bit more modest.
In the end, however, it is your choice, and I apologize for calling you stuck-up. It may very well have been a little impolite of me.
