Brokeback Mountain

I saw Brokeback Mountain Friday. It was every bit as good as the reviews have been claiming it was. It made me laugh and cry. The best thing of all, though, was being able to go to a movie and identify with the characters. I identified most with the character Jack Twist. Granted, when they gave him a moustache, it took his hotness down a notch or two... but I digress. I think the movie would have been better as something other than a first-date movie (which is how I saw it) as I would have been able to cry in the arms of someone I loved. That doesn't mean that the movie isn't gay date gold. Of all of the gay movies I have seen, this is the first one that is actually good. The characters weren't just one-dimensional steriotypes, and it wasn't just a thinly veiled soft-core flick with a loosely crafted plot. And it was nice that the characters weren't whores or what have you, turning tricks all the time. That's something which irks me about the whole gay scene, this notion of promiscuity and emotional detatchment. I don't have the energy to go into a rant about that right now, though. Let's just say that Brokeback Mountain is my new favorite gay movie.
