My New Year

Jan 01, 2011 15:36

Evan worked last night, so I chose to stay home and rest, maybe get some housework done. We did go over to a friend's house when he got home at midnight. They were having a little low key get together, which was nice, since we aren't raging party-goers. We actually ended up talking with a couple we haven't met before. I'm usually either talkative and friendly or I'm anti-social and hiding in a corner. Thankfully I was the former, so I had a really good time. They live near us and we might even all have dinner later this week. I have a hard time meeting people and even fewer that I actually like, so I'm optimistic about it. We stayed way later than we planned and I passed the hell out from exhaustion not long after we got home.

My brother's birthday is later this week too, so we're going up to Santa Rosa to visit. Since it's going to be both Evan and I we're getting a hotel room instead of staying at my mom's house. It's weird enough when it's just me to come in in the middle of the night. My dad stays up late and sometimes says hello or says, "Well, I didn't know you were coming over." As if there was no problem between us. Which is one of the issues. He is totally clueless about how he's been over the years, because he doesn't think he's done anything wrong...ever. He didn't even acknowledge I wasn't speaking to him the first few years I started ignoring him.

So, having Evan in the mix just makes me feel a little more weird about staying there. Legally, it IS half his house and he does have the right to say who enters is. I don't really want to upset anything, even though he probably will think we're coming to visit HIM. He's so fucking deluded.

Besides that, I'm looking forward to this week. Evan and I have two days off together, I get to see my family, and the hole in our ceiling should be patched up.

Oh yeah, there's been a leak in our bedroom for at least a month and it just kept getting bigger and bigger. A few days after it went from just moist to actually dripping, the manager sent someone over to fix it. (It's been raining, so they couldn't really do anything.) They tore out the dry wall so now the rafters are exposed. They put two big fans facing upward to dry it out before they actually fix the ceiling. They've been running since Wednesday morning and will continue till Tuesday. Thank goodness we have the spare room and the air mattress. It's not the most comfortable, but it's better than sleeping on the floor. It's musty and stinky in our bedroom, not to mention like a wind tunnel with the fans, so we had to get a bunch of clothes and toiletries for the next week at one time so we don't have to go in there. I've got to get a picture before they get rid of it. It's weird.

Otherwise, things are pretty cool.
