The ambience of Halloween

This past weekend was yet another busy weekend - and the aura of Halloween was definitely present the entire time. From mid-day Friday, for some odd reason, everything seemed slightly surreal. Friday night was a night in and I hadn't been getting enough sleep in the previous few nights, so I ended up going to bed a little on the early side (which for me meant around midnight). R-ball early Saturday morning cut my sleep short, which was unfortunate since it was one of the best nights sleep I'd had in quite a while. R-ball was great, and it was one of those days where I just stayed on the court and played anyone who wanted a piece of me :-) In the end I ended up back on the court with my first opponent of the day, and we both just crashed on the last point. What a feeling! And after a few minutes of silence (save rhythmic wheezing) we managed to crawl off the court. Off to a great start.

Saturday afternoon my friend Jill came by to celebrate the Halloween weekend. After spending a few minutes catching up and letting Jill settle in we were faced with a dilemma... what to do on a kinda icky Saturday afternoon? Wine tasting! So we spent the next few hours driving down Rt 89 sampling wines and hard ciders, and eventually made our way back home to discuss more important things... like dinner. We decide on a place called A1 - a steakhouse/italian bistro kinda place in Dryden. Since we were still both a little, um shall we say, impaired, we thought closer would be better. Five minutes later we were waiting to be seated and becoming more impaired ;-) A very nice meal and a couple of drinks later we're home with full happy bellies and we spend the night chatting and using each others' instincts and insights to the fullest. Another good nights sleep, a nice breakfast at a local diner and my friend Jill was back on her way home. I'm so privileged to have a friend like her, for so many reasons. Unconditional friendship is a nice concept, but rarely exists - there are always lines not to be crossed in conversation. She is a true unconditional friend, and always has thoughtful and wise advice.

The rest of the weekend was spent just chilling, talking to some friends and family on the phone, and just waiting for the new week. I got a few knocks at the door (I'd imagine trick-or-treaters), but I just played possum and they went away. That was my weekend - nothing outrageous, for a Halloween weekend. Just a laid-back chill time with a great friend. Until next time...
